Computer Network Design and Administration

Are you interested in technology and how it can be applied to build connections between people in different places? Network design and administration could be the right career for you.

In this program, you'll develop the critical thinking skills and knowledge needed to create and maintain computer networks. You’ll practice optimization, troubleshooting, and using different operating systems and hardware such as Microsoft, CISCO, or LINUX/UNIX.

Whether you want to work as a network administrator, engineer, analyst, or technician, this program prepares you to join a growing technological industry.

  1. Build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement 1Pv4 and 1Pv6 addressing schemes.
  2. Configure routers, switches, and end devices to provide local and remote connectivity
  3. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills using hands-on and simulation labs
  4. Configure and troubleshoot connectivity in a small network using security best practices.
  5. Work with routers, switches and wireless devices to configure and troubleshoot VLANs, Wireless LANs and lnter-VLAN routing.
  6. Describe, Configure and troubleshoot redundancy on a switched network using STP and EtherChannel.
  7. Explain how to support available and reliable networks using dynamic addressing and first-hop redundancy protocols.
  8. Work with routers and switches using OSPF in point-to-point and multiaccess networks.
  9. Mitigate threats and enhance network security using access control lists and security best practices.
  10. Understand virtualization, SDN, and how APls and configuration management tools enable network automation.
Note: All program required software is available in CIS labs. Student discounts are available for purchasing software for home use.

The Cisco certificate verifies students have completed the Cisco Networking Academy preparation courses which map to the current Industry recognized CCNA Certification Exam. 

Students cover a wide range of networking topics including IP routing, switching, and wireless fundamentals, network security and services, and network programmability and automation. Students practice configuration and troubleshooting skills with hands-on labs using Cisco equipment and simulation software. Students completing Cisco IV may be eligible for a substantial discount on the CCNA Certification exam. 20 credits are required for the certificate.
